Early Learning

Ready, Set, Go!
A culturally responsive early childhood education and parent engagement program. RSG provides parents with limited resources access to high quality learning environments led by expert staff.

P3 (Play and Learn)
An Early Learning Hub to link young children and families to the school and provide an opportunity for parents to connect with other parents.

Early Kindergarten Transition (EKT) / Kindergarten Jumpstart
Providing summer class time for children to meet teachers, make new friends, and become familiar with kindergarten. Parents/Caregivers participate in group engagement and other activities to also learn about kindergarten expectations.

RSG Home Visiting
Home visiting based services to promote healthy child development. Services include parent support, family socialization, connection to social services, and advocacy for families with infants, toddlers and preschool age children.


Older Adults and People with Disabilities

Project Linkage
Staff and volunteers provide accessible transportation services for older adults and people with disabilities through a partnership with Ride Connection. Paid and volunteer drivers deliver medical, shopping, recreational and other rides to support participants’ access to health and mental health care, nutrition, and wellbeing. This program makes it possible for people to age with dignity and feel connected to their community.

Virtual Engagement Program aka Zooming Seniors
Virtual groups meet weekly to engage older adults and people with disabilities, provide meaningful social connections, digital literacy skills training, information and referral, and leadership opportunities. We support individuals living in a variety of settings to address social isolation.



Intergenerational

AARP Foundation Experience Corps (EC)
An intergenerational, community-based volunteer program that engages highly trained people 50 and older as tutors to help students become better readers by the end of third grade. At EC school sites across metro Portland, findings show significant gains for students in reading and social emotional development.


Social Purpose Works

Social Purpose Works connects Pro Bono Professionals with short term, high-impact, capacity building projects for Oregon and SW Washington nonprofits.


Community Schools

Community Schools
Full-service neighborhood centers weave school and community partners together to make sure students and families have what they need to be successful -- in school and in life. The collective efforts of youth, parents, businesses, faith communities, libraries, and community organizations create a network of support to ensure youth academic success and strong communities. Tailored collaborations meet the variable needs of diverse schools and integrate targeted academic support, nutrition, and parent education.

Youth Advocates
Strengths-based, person-centered case management to help youth succeed in middle and high school through one-on-one academic help, individualized success planning, and coaching.

Family Resource Navigators
Have offices in elementary schools and help families navigate school district and community resources to support family and school success.


Hunger Relief

Hunger Relief operates school-based food pantries, cooking kits, and cooking workshops in partnership with Oregon Food Bank, Urban Gleaners, and others, all bringing fresh produce and healthy food to our community and helping kids and families learn healthy and affordable new recipes

Economic Empowerment

Portland Electric Ways to Work
Provides working parents with financial education and below market rate loans to purchase, repair or refinance a car for work, childcare, and school related transportation. Other services include how to build economic well being and personal assets at every income level.

Financial Coaching
Provides individual coaching to help people set financial goals, build credit, manage debt and build assets.

Career Coaching
Helps low-income community members participate more fully in the economy through employment and education opportunities.

Ways to Save (Individual Development Accounts IDAs)
Savings accounts that make it possible for low- and moderate-income Oregonians to build assets by making monthly savings deposits that are matched 5:1.

Small Business Credit Coaching
In partnership with Prosper Portland, provides one-on-one coaching to small business owners whose credit scores affect their ability to borrow and grow their businesses.

Youth Internship
Youth participate in activities which invest in their community by work-based learning, connecting to local professional mentors, gaining economic empowerment skills and participating in career exploration experiences.


MFS CASH Oregon

MFS CASH (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Oregon is an Economic Empowerment Program of Metropolitan Family Service committed to improving the financial lives of low to moderate income working families and individuals by providing free, high-quality tax preparation and culturally responsive outreach to communities likely to face barriers to accessing tax credits.

With over a dozen free volunteer tax sites in the Portland and Eugene metropolitan areas as well as virtual tax preparation services, CASH Oregon provides thousands of families from every community and background with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of tax filing and significantly increase their refunds each year by accessing life-stabilizing tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit.

AmeriCorps

MFS AmeriCorps
MFS proudly engages a team of AmeriCorps Members each year for a term of public service. These service terms range from a few months to a full year, and part-time to full-time service across our MFS programs and communities. Members provide hands-on, direct support to address critical community needs, while also gaining valuable professional and personal experience, insights, and growth for their next steps after service.
