A Boost for Lower-Income Drivers

Thanks to a $3.5 million investment from the Portland Clean Energy Fund, our Portland Electric Ways to Work program helps income-qualified residents save thousands on the purchase of a new or used vehicle. Qualified participants can receive:

  • $5,000 off a new or used electric vehicle

  • $4,000 off a plug-in hybrid

  • $3,000 off a traditional hybrid

Participants also receive personalized financial coaching and help navigating the car-buying process.

Now with an Extra Push for Delivery Drivers

Through a new collaboration with DoorDash, drivers who purchase a qualifying EV or hybrid through the EWTW program by the end of July can receive an additional $2,000 incentive—on top of the existing discounts. To receive this bonus, drivers must complete 50 deliveries in their new vehicle.

It’s just one more way MFS and our partners are supporting working Portlanders—by helping them reduce transportation costs, lower emissions, and build financial resilience.

“We’re looking at how we can help people save money in the long run and also do a good thing for the environment,” said Sandra Jones, Program Director at MFS, in the article.

Real Impact, Real Stories

In the piece, Jones shared the story of a Portland resident who purchased a used Nissan Leaf for just $72 after combining the $5,000 MFS incentive with a federal EV tax credit. For gig workers like delivery drivers, the savings could be even greater.

These are more than just numbers—they're life-changing opportunities that align economic empowerment with climate action.
